Customer Review: Great reference book!
The Art of SEO will remain on my shelf as a great reference book for standard SEO practices.
Good solid information for leaders in the SEO space.
Thank you!
Customer Review: SEO in Depth
The Art of SEO is a good solid book full of valuable information about search engine optimization. This is not a beginner's book to SEO, it assumes basic knowledge. It is not on the other hand heavily technical. It does not give a formula for setting up a website to maximize its SEO potential. Websites are unique and require different strategies to maximize their SEO.
The book does give tons of examples and techniques used in various ways that would increase the ranking within search engines. It also discusses, and gives examples of so-called tricks that have been used in the past to increase rankings. It does points out the danger of using such tricks in the present environment.
There is plenty of information for the web developers and webmasters to consider when developing for a site. Such as the drawbacks of using Flash or Silverlight in regards to SEO. The importance of naming conventions for such things as images. The book discusses site hierarchy as it applies to search engine optimization. Linking, the dos and don'ts. What works, what works best.
The book is an easy read, and although it requires some technical knowledge, almost anyone with a basic level of understand should have no problem. If someone wants to be a SEO expert, they might feel the need to read this book will are cover to cover. For others it would make a good reference book or something to be skimmed through picking out the information that may apply to the work they're doing.

Customer Review: Too Big for a Door Stop
For the money, this is physically the largest book I've ever purchased. This book not only SAYS it is 8 books in one, it really is! And, like all the Dummies books, it is easy to read and very informative. We are launching a new website ([...]) later this month and found to book to be everything it promises. The books on technical things are too technical for me, but I'm passing the information on to our web designer. The books on PR and SEO and content are excellent. I WILL keep it on my desk and refer to it often.
Customer Review: Unpaid Review from an SEO Expert
This book is easily one of the better primers for web marketing available today. While it doesn't serve as a replacement for books dedicated specifically to one subject (SEO, writing copy, etc), it's an excellent starting reference with a few new ideas for experienced web marketers.
Much of the first chapter (or "book" as it's referred to by the authors) is a basic overview of establishing a web presence. While most of their suggestions can be easily found online, the sub-chapter on writing effective copy contains useful pointers that normally wouldn't appear in design books.
The chapter on SEO offers an excellent breakdown for anyone not familiar with optimizing a site to rank well on search engines such as Yahoo and Google. If you're already familiar with basic SEO techniques, though, don't expect any new tips or techniques. This particular section of the book was seriously lacking, as evidenced by the author explaining how to optimize images, but not mentioning even the most basic of tips such as use of alternate image tags.
Chapter three, which covers Web Analytics, offers in-depth explanations of how to effectively track your visitors. This is followed up by a chapter on attracting those visitors to your website through paid advertising, and their techniques would definitely make this process easy for online marketing newbies.
Most of the Email marketing advice (save for writing copy) is impractical, as many advertisers use paid newsletter services that have eliminated the stress of manual email blasts.
The two best chapters of the book are easily the Blogging and Social Media marketing ones. Chapter six will explain everything an online marketing newbie needs to know about creating a blog, coming up with blogging ideas, and promoting your posts. Their techniques are immediately followed by methods of promoting yourself through social media websites such as Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and a variety of Bookmarking sites. One thing this chapter does well is explain how to master the art of subtle promotion without appearing to advertise.
While I thought the chapter on Search Engine Optimization was severely lacking for a book dedicated to web marketing, as a whole I think this deserves five stars as a thorough primer.

Customer Review: Very Practical and Helpful. You Truly Learn More and Read Less
This book is truly helpful. Of all the SEO Books out there, I recommend this one to both pro and beginner. Lots of resources, you walk away with the information that you need. Very friendly with real life examples to visually walk you through the process.
Customer Review: Good technical book on search engine optimization.
Kris Jones has put together the best book on the subject of search engine optimization I have ever seen. He is very thorough in his explanations of different strategies to create a buzz about your business, initiative or service. Kris leaves no stone unturned as he explains the various ways to attract people to your website. He discusses pay-per-click services, social networking, various ways to tag and optimize your web site design, resources to analyze how well your site is attracting viewers, resources to improve the experience of your site and many other techniques.
This book is excellent for both a beginner (though I would recommend getting some vocabulary about web page design and the internet in general) and experienced professional because Kris is thorough and writes very clearly.

Customer Review: SEO Optimization
Excellent. Includes lots of solid information I haven't found elsewhere. I plan to spend lots of time implementing his suggestions on my very large (1000+ page) web site.
The author wrote this book in part to promote his subscription-based SEO tools. That's OK, but the reader needs to take into account that the author has an agenda other than writing a helpful book.
Customer Review: This Book Will Prompt You to Get Busy!
I am new to SEO. I am studying up for my career as well as for our family business. As a beginner, I am pleased to say I felt like it was written in a way that was easy to grasp, which I did not expect. I read most of it with my computer right next to me so I could check out our own website and those of our competitors. It's almost like a checklist with more meat to make sure you do the most you can to be near the top of the list when someone searches for your offering. It is a big, thick book with a lot of information. I should have read up on SEO sooner.
I would recommend this for any business owner currently with or considering a web presence. (I know I would have done things differently had I read this book before getting our site designed.) Also, marketing, sales or customer services execs. may find this handy as they look to increase sales / revenue and/or the ability for their customers to find their product or service easily on the web.
